Title: Regulatory and Compliance Electrical Engineer
Business Unit: Gast
Location: USA-MI-Benton Harbor
Function: Engineering


PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Regulatory and Compliance Engineer is responsible for managing, coordinating, and maintaining all regulatory, compliance and product safety issues applicable to Gast Manufacturing processes and products. The person in this role will accomplish this through agency submittals, continuing education programs, interpretation and training on compliance requirements. The individual in this position will be responsible for recommending strategies and ensuring all corporate procedures, processes, and products are in conformance with standards and regulatory requirements applicable to Gast Manufacturing products and markets.


  • Works with Sales and Marketing to determine regulatory/compliance requirements for new product studies

  • Supports the New Product Development team by participating as a design team member

  • Participates in product design reviews as required

  • Responsible for procedure to comply product at completion of regulatory agency testing

  • Develops strong rapport with agency personnel through Gast product education and onsite training

  • Submits, expedites, and follows up with all regulatory submittals

  • Responsible for updating all standards, unit obsolescence, model updates, addendum’s, and providing correct information for agency reports and Gast literature

  • Coordinates, tracks and maintains certification of Gast internal regulatory lab(s) and all test results

  • Ensures all internal and external customers’ regulatory and compliance requests are answered in a timely, accurate, and professional manner

  • Coordinates interpretation of international standards and compliance issues with Gast Ltd and Gast Asia

  • Notifies customers of regulatory and compliance changes to Gast products

  • Conducts regulatory and compliance orientation for new employees

  • Responsible for continuing educational training on regulatory and compliance issues for all Gast employees as applicable

  • Manages, collects, and maintains regulatory agency submittals, files, records, inspection reports, audit variances, directive checklists, and correspondences

  • Works closely with vendors to standardize companies electric motor need to reduce product cost

  • Continuous review of electric motors used in the industry and those used by Gast

  • Sources more standard applications of electric motors to reduce the need for specifically designed motors for products

  • Provides regulatory and compliance product liability support

  • Ensures information is organized and can be readily produced for customer requests or product liability purposes

  • Ensures all safety, compliance and regulatory issues are compiled in product operating and maintenance instructions for new and existing products



  • Demonstrates experience and knowledge in the manufacturing and/or industrial industry.

  • Self-starter maintains high ethical standards.

  • Demonstrates ability to lead and work well in a team environment.

  • Possess strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills

  • Exhibits commitment to continuous quality improvement

  • Experience with regulatory agencies, EU directives and compliance standards

  • Must be self-motivated, show initiative, anticipate and prevent issues by executing advanced problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work well with customers and internal team members

  • Ability to work well under pressure and time constraints to meet strict deadlines

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask as needed.

  • Knowledge of AC, DC, BLDC motor design, manufacturing, and testing preferred

  • Domestic and International travel required 2-4 times per quarter to visit regulatory agencies, customers, and suppliers.

  • Ability to interpret, convey, and train on all regulatory and compliance requirements as they relate to Gast products and processes.

  • Knowledge of project cost estimating

  • Ability to operate computers and proficient in MSOffice applications.

  • Ability to read and write in English.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communications.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated work experience in a related field

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

  • Experience with UL, CSA, CE evaluation, testing, and approval process working directly with agency engineers to approve products
